STATEMENT FROM U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE RICK WADE
ON THE FUTURE OF HIS CAMPAIGN

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Rick Wade, a candidate for the United States Senate, today released the following statement:

“As a native South Carolinian who cares deeply about the future of our state, I have made the extremely difficult choice to halt my campaign for the United States Senate.

“Being the underdog has never deterred me from taking on tough endeavors in my life. I certainly had no illusions about being able to match a multimillion dollar campaign war chest. But after a couple of months as a candidate, I’ve concluded that the timing of my entrance — less than a year before Election Day — had compressed the calendar too much for me to raise the money needed to mount a serious challenge. It’s important to remember that this is a special election to serve out the last two years of Senator Jim DeMint’s unexpired term. The winner will face voters again in 2016 for election to a full six-year Senate term.

“I am sincerely grateful to my excellent staff and all of the wonderful supporters who have contributed or volunteered their time to build our campaign infrastructure. As this chapter ends, I remain passionate about helping to address the serious challenges facing South Carolina and the nation, from reviving the manufacturing sector to expanding small businesses and preparing our children for a 21st century economy. Public service is important to me, so moving forward, I will continue to explore opportunities to make our state a better place to live, work, and visit.”
